From the variety of bands he builds to the number of horns he plays, versatility is everywhere in this saxophonist’s art. The current week-long showcase underscores that, pairing him with (among others) a string quartet, a poet, and his famed Dark Woods Ensemble. I’m partial to his Rites Quartet’s slippery post-Ornette zig-zag and can’t wait to hear him trade lines with sax player Adam Kolker in an update of his Traveler’s Tales foursome, but what seems most enticing is a duet with drummer Tyshawn Sorey. The two of them will make a wily pair, no doubt.
