Unlike many acts, Wooden Shjips’ albums don’t so much present unique impressions of points in time (like chapters in a book), but a fluid representation of a band swirling around in its own headspace (more akin to a lava lamp). The psychedelic San Franciscans just released their sixth official full-length, Back to Land — betwixt a bevy of singles, demos, and other apocrypha — but really it’s just another view of their groovy state of mind where acid-rock never died and the history of the world is written in the interplay of cymbals and guitar fuzz.
