Get a taste of Andy Ricker’s Thai cuisine — for less than you’d spend at his Columbia Waterfront restaurant.
It behooves you to gather a group and head out to Pok Pok Ny so you can taste the full breadth of Andy Ricker’s Thai canon. But if you’d like to sample his creations and are tight on cash (Pok Pok Ny can come with a high sticker price if you order more than one dish — which you’ll want to do), drop into Pok Pok Phat Thai, a garden level spot in the Lower East Side that specializes in Thailand’s national dish. The phat Thai thamadaa comes in at $9.50, and it’s substantial: A big platter of noodles coated in fish sauce, lime, and palm sugar comes studded with bits of shrimp, pork, tofu, and fried egg and dusted with crunchy peanuts and dried chilies, which add spark. You’ll want to squeeze a bit more lime over the top to brighten the whole dish — it enlivens the savory and spicy notes and gives the platter a light lift. If you’ve got extra cash, try a drinking vinegar — or perhaps a fresh-squeezed limeade.
