What’s Happening This Weekend: Eight Pubs of Hanukkah, Free Cookies, Chili Throwdown, Sunday Roast at GRACE

The trees have been lit, the rinks have been iced, and all the good shopping deals are gone. Get out and enjoy the city; it’s a good time of year for it.

Eight Pubs of Hanukkah, multiple locations, Queens, Saturday, 2 p.m.

With the fate of SantaCon up in the air, this Astoria bar crawl might be the easiest way to get the most mileage out of your holiday attire. SingleCut Brewery has joined up with several Astoria area businesses including MexiBBQ and final stop The Strand Smokehouse to offer special brews at $4 a pint among other drink specials (hit the website for the complete line-up). Live music and dead barbecued animals await recipients at the finish line.

Free Cookies, Dean & DeLuca, 560 Broadway, Saturday, 2:30 to 5 p.m.

Need practice for what to buy before Santa’s arrival? Head to Dean & DeLuca for complimentary samples of a CHA no Ka, a Japanese butter cookie, which will be handed out while supplies last. The cookie is made of tea leaves, white Belgian chocolate, and green tea leaf wafers. If you really like the taste, boxes will be on sale at the store.

Chili Throwdown, Spring Lounge, 48 Spring Street, Sunday, 2 p.m.

Thirteen breweries will create 13 types of chili and face off against one another for bragging rights at this third annual holiday classic; Empire State Brewing looks to defend its crown but faces some stiff competition. Entries from Captain Lawrence and Lagunitas are a sample of what’s in store for attendees — you’ll want to keep your water glass full if you’re planning to complete the baker’s dozen. The winning brewery receives a permanent draft line at the lounge for the entire month of January plus the early Christmas gift of knowing they are the best.

Sunday Roast at GRACE, GRACE, 365 Third Avenue, Sunday, 5 p.m.

Channeling a British tradition not often seen Stateside, this Kip’s Bay pub and restaurant is rolling out a Sunday roast. $29 nets you a prime rib of beef, made-to-order Yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes, and Brussels sprouts as part of the feast. The bar’s cocktail program was created by an all-star line up of female mixologists who paid tribute to the bar’s namesake, Grace O’Malley, so it’s appropriate to treat yourself to a beverage, too.
