Two-piece dark chicken dinner at Bromberg Bros. Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken (21 East 1st Street, 212-228-0404), $9
A classic recipe gets a fast casual twist.
When Bruce and Eric Bromberg opened Brombrg Bros. Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken earlier this year, they pointed out the fact that they’re no strangers to deep-frying poultry; they’ve had fried chicken on the menu at the two-decade-old flagship since the beginning. here, though, you can get it cheaply, quickly, and in multiple formats in a fast casual setting. The shop is currently running a chicken sandwich special that gets you a hunk of boneless batter-swaddled bird on a bun for $7 — opt for the spicy version with pickled peppers or the sweet-salty iteration topped with pineapple. Were we starving, though, we’d go with the two-piece dark meat dinner platter, though: $9 buys you a leg and a thigh, a pile of pencil-thin fries, a dinner roll, and bread and butter pickles. Slather your fowl with habanero hot sauce, and you’ll be on your way to food coma.
