Last month, the Internet let out a collective, extended groan when we learned that a sequel to It’s a Wonderful Life was in the works. Thankfully, indignation over the venture stopped just short of George Bailey-inspired bridge-leapings in protest and Paramount swore to defend the rights, because Frank Capra’s heartwarming 1946 film already captured everyone’s revved-up Christmas anxiety perfectly. This year, carry on the annual viewing tradition in the theater at IFC. Mary Owen, Reed’s daughter, appears in person on Christmas Eve and several other dates to comment on the film.
