For this week’s review, Zachary Feldman hit Contra (138 Orchard Street, 212-446-4633), the Lower East Side homage to Parisian neo-bistros from Jeremiah Stone and Fabian von Hauske. “In a time when ingredient sourcing has overtaken opulence as a major factor in determining a restaurant’s value (‘local’ is the new ‘luxury’), Contra’s earnest approach to the greenmarket ethos is part of what makes Stone and von Hauske’s food worth considering,” Feldman writes. He details a series of meals there, each different thanks to the duo’s $55 five-course prix fixe menu that changes nightly.
Photographer Bradley Hawks shot a number of dishes at the restaurant. Feast your eyes on his work, then head over and read Feldman’s full review.
