Cuban sandwich at Sophie’s Cuban Cuisine (multiple locations), $7.99
Sate a Cuban sandwich craving with this hefty pork-ridden meal.
We’re always on the lookout for a good Cuban sandwich, and the version over at Bushwick’s Cafeteria La Mejor is still number one in our hearts. When we don’t have the time or wherewithal to trek over to that side of Brooklyn, though, we’ll occasionally sate a craving at Sophie’s Cuban Cuisine. The multi-outlet lunch counter turns out a number of pork-based sandwiches (and pork-based platters, too, which come with rice, beans, and fried plantains). The Cuban is classic: Roasted pork, ham, Swiss, flat slices of dill pickles, and mustard pressed between two halves of crusty white bread. Ribbon it with the hot sauce, which is about the same hue as mint chocolate chip ice cream, for the best effect.
