There are endorsements, and then there are endorsements. And Bun B of legendary Third Coast rap clique UGK calling your band “The best in Houston” would fall under the italicized, much-more-important latter. (BUN B!) The band he said it about, Houston, Texas, indie four piece the Tontons, are set to drop their new album, Make Out King and Other Stories of Love, on Feb. 18th, and the line of publications agreeing with Bun is beginning to get longer and longer. The Wall Street Journal named their “Veida” one of the best songs of 2013, and both The New York Times and Rolling Stone have taken notice. Here, we’re happy to premiere “Pony,” which, despite not being a cover of Ginuwine’s song of the same name, is pretty great nonetheless.
“‘Pony’ is the third single off of our new album Make Out King and Other Stories of Love and probably my favorite,” Tontons lead singer Asli Omar tells us. “It’s a song about the end of one relationship and the start of a new one coupled with all of the complex emotions that happen as a result.”
Complex emotions. Break ups. New love. Bun B. Omar’s favorite. “Pony” is great. Listen to it here exclusively after the jump.
