We popped by Ample Hills (623 Vanderbilt Avenue, 347-240-3926) today to chat about the shop’s forthcoming Gowanus location (slated to open in May) and forthcoming cookbook (due out in April), both of which you’ll be able to read about in the near future. But while we were in the shop, we sampled a pair of flavors going head-to-head for Super Bowl weekend in honor of the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks.
Playing on the fact that both Washington and Colorado legalized marijuana in the last election, owner Brian Smith explains, the parlor churned out a pair of “high” flavors: Representing the Broncos is the Rocky Mountain High, a play on Rocky Road that includes Left Hand Milk Stout, a beer brewed in the Centennial state. The Seahawks’ flavor is Caffeine High, which incorporates Seattle coffee shop Caffe Vita’s coffee into a base studded with chocolate-covered espresso beans.
We’ll be rooting for the Broncos this weekend (well, at least this reporter will — I won’t speak for the Fork staff at large), but we have to admit, we liked the Caffeine High better.
Get in there, try both flavors, and decide for yourself.
