Aram Bajakian

From downtown icon John Zorn’s noise-making stable of trailblazing protégés comes Queens’ own strings-obliterating guitarist, Aram Bajakian. As part of the ensemble of slayers summoned by the avant-grade legend himself, Bajakian helped premiere Zorn’s Masada Book Three: The Book, Beriah at Town Hall last month. Now, the surging Bajakian is basking in the glow of two excellent releases where his sonic prowess is on full display: Psychomagia (under Zorn’s name) and his own blistering exercise in ax wizardry he calls there will also be flowers in hell. On hell, Bajakian’s Ribot-esque genre-encompassing virtuosity inflects Minutemen-like cow-punk rollick, old Knitting Factory klezmer, skuzzy blooze jams and fire-breathing punk-jazz improv. It’s only fitting Bajakian readies The Grand VIctory stage for a revolutionary EV guitarist he’s certainly learned from: Elliot Sharp.
