A few months ago I came across a trio album the mighty saxophonist cut with drummer Mark Lockett, and was knocked out by the agility of his horn. It’s not news that Frahm’s one of the most impressive improvisers around, but sometimes it’s easy to forget how entertaining his music is. Esprit is everywhere in his work. This two-night stand with his own trio should remind us of that playful vigor. Don’t miss the extra oomph that bassist Omer Avital brings to the basement – the pair goes way back.
