Late in 2013, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London exhibited “Club to Catwalk: London Fashion in the 1980s,” a show that featured more than 85 outfits displaying the explosion of British fashions during that era. One such piece, an inflatable Michiko Koshino coat with a movable tail, caught the eye of artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster: It was so similar to a piece she owned, she believed it was hers. Her first exhibition at 303 Gallery, “euqinimod & costumes,” is based on the idea of ownership, which doesn’t lead to a conversation so much about fashion as identity and history. The exhibition will display and examine her personal clothing and textiles dating from the mid-’60s, for an “exploration into the biographical self.”
