This Week’s Four Best Happy Hour Specials – 4/16/2014

Need a post-tax day drink? Or craving a plate of bratwurst now that it’s grilling season? This week’s happy hour specials offer both, plus a suggestion on where to head if you’ve got hours to kill on a cool April day.

The Marrow, 99 Bank Street

Harold Dieterle’s West Village dining room is now offering a happy hour with a focus on German and Italian drink specials. Beers like Radeberger and Birra Moretti are $5 each from 5:30 to 7 p.m, while select red and white wines from both countries are also available for $5 a glass. If we get hungry, $10 plates of bratwurst and sweet Italian sausage are ready to help turn our happy hour plans into a full blown dinner.

Isola Trattoria and Crudo Bar, 9 Crosby Street

Gone are the days when a free snack meant a bowl of pretzels. From 5 to 7 p.m. nightly, guests here can enjoy complimentary Italian style snacks — like crudo — while throwing back negronis. The bar is mixing up beer, wine, and cocktail specials during its new aperitivo hour.

Claret Wine Bar, 46-02 Skillman Avenue, Queens

Here’s a happy hour to split with a friend: Head out to Sunnyside and enjoy a choice of a brick oven pizza or a cheese and meat platter along with one bottle of red or white wine for $25. If that’s a little much, beer on tap is $4 from 5 to 7 p.m., and the selection represents a good mix of New York craft brews like Blue Point and Ommegang.

Eastside Billiards, 163 East 86th Street

From opening until 7 p.m., you can hustle fellow pool players over $3 brews and $5 mixed drinks at this billiards bar. You’ll also find $15 play-all-day deals. If you’re really strapped for cash — or are really bad at hustling — free games on the coin operated bar table are available after 7 p.m on Wednesdays, too.
