The 18th annual Rooftop Films Summer Series begins on Friday with a lineup of short films from around the world, with selections including David O’Reilly’s minute-long I Am Alone and My Head Is on Fire and the 28-minute An Extraordinary Person from writer-director Monia Chokri (best known for acting in Xavier Dolan’s Heartbeats and Laurence Anyways). Today’s schedule features a sneak-peek screening of Gillian Robespierre’s Obvious Child, which premiered at Sundance in January and is slated for theatrical release — courtesy of red-hot distributor A24 (Enemy, Locke, Under the Skin) — on June 6. Other highlights in Rooftop’s feature-film program include Lukas Moodysson’s acclaimed We Are the Best!, Joe Swanberg’s Happy Christmas (starring Anna Kendrick), and Michael Winterbottom’s The Trip to Italy (which reunites The Trip co-stars Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon).
Mondays-Sundays, 7 p.m. Starts: May 17. Continues through Aug. 16, 2014
