If you follow Late Night with Seth Meyers on Instagram, you already know Dinosaur Jr. guitarist/legend J Mascis is sitting in with Fred Armisen’s 8G Band all week. So last night we decided to march on up to 30 Rock and ask if he and his band would do us the honor of playing our 4Knots Music Festival. He said yes, but only if we could beat him “Devil Went Down to Georgia”-style in a guitar solo challenge. We foolishly took him up on the offer.
And lost. Badly. Because Mascis isn’t just responsible for one of the greatest interviews of all time, he’s one of the most badass guitarists who has ever strapped one on. He’s also an extremely nice fellow who agreed to play 4Knots after beating us anyway (perhaps because he felt badly about how silly he made us look). So start stocking up on earplugs, because Dinosaur Jr. will be joining Those Darlins, Speedy Ortiz, Radkey, Viet Cong, Nude Beach, Juan Wauters and a few more we can’t tell you about just yet at the fourth annual Village Voice 4Knots Music Festival on July 12th at South Street Seaport! As always, it’s FREE, and will no doubt be one of the most special days of your already special 2014 summer. (We know you. You’ve got big plans.)
The show kicks off, rain or shine, at 1 p.m. and runs until 8, after which most right thinking people will head up to Webster Hall and the official 4Knots After Party we’re going to tell you all about in the coming days. We’re very excited about all of this and hope you’ll come join us on the water. See you there!
