When one restaurant’s doors close, another restaurant’s doors open in fast-paced New York City, and every Friday, we’ll fill you in on what opened up around town this week. This week: a Venezuelan hot dog joint in Bushwick, a contemporary Mexican restaurant in the East Village, and an Australian-style coffee shop in Bed-Stuy.
Brunswick, 144 Decatur Street, Brooklyn
Australian-style café Brunswick has set up shop in Bed-Stuy. The café offers a variety of Counter Culture coffees, as well as a menu with sandwiches, salads, and more. Brunswick is now open until 6 p.m. daily.
Central Station, 84 Central Avenue, Brooklyn 718-483-9884
Chef Joe Vigorito, an alum of Lupa and Dell’anima, hopes to serve industry veterans with Central Station’s late night hours. The bar and restaurant is open until 4 a.m. on weekends and offers a small menu that includes fish sticks, grilled cheese, and a burger. The space has a large back garden that’s perfect for sipping drinks on a warm summer night.
Guacuco Hot Dogs, 234 Starr Street, Brooklyn
Leonardo Melinas, the restauranteur behind Pabellon Arepa, has opened Guacuco Hot Dogs. The Venezuelan hot dog joint in Bushwick offers up loaded hot dogs, burgers, and more. With a 2 a.m. closing time on weeknights (3 a.m. on weekends), it’s a good bet to sate those late night munchies.
Meat Hook Sandwich Shop, 495 Lorimer Street, Brooklyn, 718-302-4665
Meat Hook’s Tom Mylan has opened the long-awaited Meat Hook Sandwich Shop. A recent enticing tweet: “Have you ever had hash browns on a roast beef sandwich? We didn’t think so. Let’s Party.”
The Black Ant, 60 Second Avenue, 212-598-0300
The Ofrenda Team brings us The Black Ant, a contemporary Mexican restaurant now open in the East Village. Chef Mario Hernandez is offering a menu that includes blood clams, grilled cactus pad, braised rabbit, and more. Expect to see a lot of mescal- and tequila-based cocktails on the drink menu, which was created by partner Jorge Guzman. During the summer, the garden will be open for dining.
