When one restaurant’s doors close, another restaurant’s doors open in fast-paced New York City, and every Friday, we’ll fill you in on what opened up around town this week. This week was a slow one for openings, but here are a pair of new entrants.
Awadh, 2588 Broadway, 646-861-3604
Gaurav Anand wants New Yorkers to know that Indian food isn’t just tikka masala, and so he opened Awadh, a restaurant dedicated to a regional cuisine rare even in its home country: Earlier this week, the owner told us, “Even in India, this food is very unique. There are specific restaurants that do this food there — you can’t get it just anywhere.” He chose the Upper West Side location because he felt it lacked authentic cuisine. Awadh is open daily for dinner.
Cherche Midi, 282 Bowery, 212-226-3055
The highly anticipated Keith McNally restaurant Cherche Midi opens tonight. Located in the former Pulino’s space, the Bowery restaurant boasts a classic French menu. Expect steak frites, roasted chicken breast, mussels, and more. Cherche Midi is now taking reservations for dinner.
