Dish no. 95: Rainbow Cookie Crème Ice from Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices (multiple locations)
Before Ralph’s opened its only Manhattan outpost four years ago, we found ourselves visiting friends in Long Island and Staten Island just to get our hands on this super sweet frosty indulgence. Ralph’s offers two types of ice: traditional Italian water ice and a smoother, dairy-based crème ice. Head straight for the rainbow cookie crème ice, a frozen play on the tri-color Italian confection. Chunks of the namesake cookie and swirls of raspberry jam weave through a sweet cake batter base. If that doesn’t sound outrageously good, pick from one of the other 100 flavors like key lime pie, cantaloupe, or peanut butter fudge pretzel.
In advance of our 2014 Best of NYC issue, we’re traipsing through the boroughs and divulging our favorite dishes of the year. They’re presented here as a countdown, but we’re listing them in no particular order. Consider this a guide to what’s good to eat in this town right this very second.
