Dish no. 93: Lengua taco from Tacos Morelos (North 7th Street at Bedford Avenue)
Located in what is called the Times Square of Williamsburg, one of the Tacos Morelos trucks sits directly across the street from the Bedford L train stop. Luckily for subway travelers and anyone else who has to pass through these parts, you’ll find a fine taco here that’s suitable for a midday meal or a late night snack (the cart is open from 11 a.m. until 4 a.m. seven days a week). Don’t skip the lengua taco, wherein two corn tortillas are filled with tender braised beef tongue, cilantro, onions, and two types of hot sauce. They are made to order, and they are worth the normal three to four minute wait. Order two of them — they’re $2.50 apiece — and pair them with one of the flavored Jarrito sodas.
In advance of our 2014 Best of NYC issue, we’re traipsing through the boroughs and divulging our favorite dishes of the year. They’re presented here as a countdown, but we’re listing them in no particular order. Consider this a guide to what’s good to eat in this town right this very second.
