Many decades ago and counting there was a Golden Age of songwriting for movie musicals. Irving Berlin and Gershwin Brothers George and Ira were among the foremost of them, writing for the Depression escape fare starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. George and Ira’s “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” translates these days as they can’t take them away from us. Unlikely these two interpreters will also dance the tunes, but with “Cheek to Cheek” they’ll surely reach the singing savvy sophistication level.
