Dish no. 71: Chicken & Eggs at Acme (9 Great Jones Street, 212-203-2121)
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? At Acme, the two are inextricable in a brilliant dish greater than the sum of its parts. Garlicky roasted breast meat and whole fried new potatoes soak up a pool of fatty offal-thickened gravy, which mixes with the yolk of the crowning poached eggs. It’s served in a pot as dark and earthy an abyss as the neo-Nordic dining room.
