With its band members scattered across three cities on two continents (none of them in Scotland), a Sunny Day in Glasgow were forced to put together their new album, Sea When Absent, by emailing back and forth. The result is far more together than you might expect. Dreamy vocals evoke the Cocteau Twins and guide disjointed melodies over clattering percussion and crashing guitars. It all seems on the verge of falling apart before crystallizing into joyously sweet harmonies that make this sublime record one of the best of the summer.
