This year’s eleventh annual Animation Block Party, featuring work from a wide spectrum of scales and platforms — professional, experimental, independent, student — splits its time between two Brooklyn locations: Rooftop Film’s opening-night festivities include live music and a promising lineup of animated shorts, while BAM’s programming approaches even more eccentric territory: a series of shorts showcasing cartoonist Paul Terry’s signature creation — the balding, hot-tempered Farmer Al Falfa; a centennial tribute to Pinocchio and Bambi art director John Hubley; and a 35mm screening of Space Jam, starring Michael Jordan. Today’s offerings are of the short-film variety, ranging from student-made works to experimental shorts from around the globe.
