The future of dance in New York has names like Shamara, Vladimir, Jamilya, Onie, John, Juan, Kaitlen, and Ivoryona. It blossoms in this program run by Bessie award-winner Alice Teirstein, which offers all-expenses-paid training in modern dance and choreography to 16 gifted students from 15 public high schools on an annual basis. Now in its 19th season, the Young Dancemakers Company convenes for a month-long workshop at the 92nd Street Y and the Fieldston School, then tours the city with newly choreographed dances and an excerpt from Paul Taylor’s sublime Esplanade, taught by guest artist Richard Chen See. Check the website for the dates, times, and sites of performances in the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. Takes place in various locations.
Mondays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: July 24. Continues through Aug. 2, 2014
