The dog days of summer are upon us, which means there are only a few more weeks we can enjoy our food in a tank top and feel completely normal. Here are five great opportunities to flex those guns — and palates — this weekend.
Follow the Grain! Artisanal Production Tour, Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at BLDG 92, 63 Flushing Avenue, Brooklyn, Saturday, 11 a.m.
Building 92’s latest exhibit explores the history of grain and manufacturing in New York City, with tour stops including a trip to nearby Kings County Distillery for a whiskey tasting. Other stops on the journey include the Navy Yard’s rooftop farm, Brooklyn Grange, as well as the commercial kitchen of Ted & Honey, with refreshments available to enjoy. Even more rewarding? The amount of information you’ll learn about proper composting techniques. Tickets are $20 for the general public and can be purchased here.
New Brunch, Fung Tu, 22 Orchard Street, Saturday and Sunday, 12 p.m.
If you need to break out of the typical eggs benedict routine, Jonathan Wu’s Lower East Side restaurant has launched new brunch menu available until 4 p.m. on weekends. Fried chicken served with steamed buns and Chinese sausage gravy, koshihikari rice porridge, and a dish dubbed China-quiles are all available for the taking. Cocktails include a bloody mary made with sriracha Sichuan oil and a drink called the bing bing made with cold-brew coffee, absinthe, and coffee liqueur. Dinner favorites including pork belly egg rolls and fried rice with brisket and rhubarb are also on offer.
Backyard “Japan to the Caribbean” Goat Roast, Dassara, 271 Smith Street, Brooklyn Saturday, 12:30 p.m.
A bowl of ramen might be Dassara’s bread and butter, but consider a change of pace by checking out this restaurant’s all-you-can-eat-and-drink goat roast. For $30 guests receive all the goat and draft beer they can handle; $16 gets you a plate of goat, sides, and a brew. Throughout the afternoon, the restaurant will offer up $3 PBRs and $4 beers. Secure your goat-to Saturday affair here.
Masafest, Rockaway Beach 97 Boardwalk, 9701 Shore Front Parkway, Queens, Saturday, 11 a.m..
Celebrating corn in all of its glory, chefs including Ignacio Mattos and Fany Gerson will head down to the beach to share some of their corniest creations for an evening dinner. Treats from Rockaway Taco and Caracas Arepas Bar will also be available throughout the day for those looking for a quick snack between tanning sessions. Tickets are $125 for a seat at the dinner table and can be purchased here.

If you’re idea of summer foods stops and ends at lobster roll, it’s time to expand your thinking.
