Although there has been an increase in awareness about celiac disease, it’s still hard out there for the gluten intolerant: Just try finding a brownie that’s both safe to eat and doesn’t taste like dirt. Today, the Takedowns, a nationwide series of home chef competitions, turns its attention toward flour-free recipes in the Gluten-Free Takedown, a massive faceoff in Gowanus. Amateur chefs are invited to share their best dishes—all creations are welcome, as long as they’re easily divided into bites for the hungry crowd—and the organizers provide equipment and utensils. The rest of you wheat-averse can enjoy a stress-free day of gorging.
