Call them preservationists or call them trash pickers. But whatever you call them, don’t leave them alone with your old home videos. For one night only, Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher of the Found Footage Festival and Davy Rothbart of Found Magazine will go head to head in a good-natured battle of scavenging, pitting their favorite salvaged relics against each other and sharing the treasure trove with a lucky crowd. Each year, the Found Footage Festival sells out hundreds of shows across the U.S. and Canada with its rescued library of educational, institutional, personal, and just plain weird VHS tapes. Likewise, Rothbart takes to the road with his literary compendium of acquired notes and letters, often guest-appearing on NPR’s This American Life. Together, the two institutions should provide a compelling audio-visual, and more likely than not hilarious, portrait of life in this country.
