The name is a conversation starter, but it’s the music of Perfect Pussy that has made them critical darlings and this year’s buzziest. After the Syracuse act dropped its mesmerizingly noisy debut EP, last year’s I Have Lost All Desire for Feeling, the indie and DIY community began taking swift and astute notice. This year, their first full-length LP, Say Yes to Love, proved their mettle as being more than just buzz and a provocative cognomen. For lead singer Meredith Graves, the name is more a statement of female self-worth than something meant to garner attention. In an interview with Pitchfork last October, Graves noted that it was meant to be symbolic for women. For Graves, “[Perfect Pussy] is just a nice thing to say to yourself.” Who says a cool band name can’t be kind of inspirational?
