Ramiz and Atush Dani opened Dani’s House of Pizza way back in 1959 on a sleepy corner of Lefferts Boulevard in Kew Gardens, and in the 55 years since, the family-run pizzeria has functioned as both community center and dining destination. The shop’s voluminous slice manages to avoid floppy failure thanks to a crisp, just-thin-enough crust. And while the proprietary tomato sauce errs on the sweeter side, there’s enough melted dairy thrown in the mix to balance the equation. White-pie lovers take note: Pesto sauce makes an excellent pizza topping. It’s one of Dani’s bestsellers.
