Best Restaurant in West Harlem

It’s standing room only at this 24-hour Caribbean takeout restaurant, but no one seems to mind hovering around the entrance to Rusty’s Flavor for containers of ackee, callaloo, and amply spiced jerk chicken. Curry tenderizes goat and shrimp alike, and scotch bonnets have their way with snapper, porgy, kingfish, and butterfish for peppery escovitch. A daily changing roster of soups (conch, goat) and porridges (peanut is a standout) comforts taste buds during the day. As the sun sets, gentlemen of a certain age pop in intermittently to order from the “Sexual Treatment” section of the menu, populated by dubious homeopathic virility and aphrodisiac soft drinks with names like Secret Stallion, Magnum, and Roots Man. But before you go making night moves to reggae and calypso rhythms, consider indulging in some peanut punch or ginger beer, two traditional beverages not concerned with your genitals in the slightest.
