Once upon a midday dreary, you sat in your high school class reading “The Raven.” This time, leave the interpretation to, a multidisciplinary chamber ensemble led by composer Whitney George. At the Center for Fiction, the ensemble of eight will accompany 1920s silent films with live scores of Poe classics like “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “The Tell Tale Heart.” All the music is written by George, whose trademark is to write parts for the specific instrumentalists in her ensemble, as opposed to parts that any flutist or percussionist could play. The operatic combination of music, text, and visual drama — including puppetry, for “The Raven” — is the perfect prelude to Halloween, but fantastic in its own right.
