INDECENT EXPOSURE

by

In commemorating its 20th anniversary, the Andy Warhol Museum has conceived Exposed: Songs for Unseen Warhol Films, a work that combines live musical performance with new, digitally restored footage from 15 Warhol films yet to be shown publicly. Dean Wareham (Galaxie 500, Luna), Tom Verlaine (Television), Martin Rev (Suicide), Eleanor Friedberger (the Fiery Furnaces), and Bradford Cox (Deerhunter, Atlas Sound) are the five artists playing alongside the 1960s-era films, which are screening as part of BAM’s 2014 Next Wave Festival. An online slideshow teasing the footage features many tantalizing images: the poet John Giorno washing dishes in the nude (1963’s Untitled [John Washing]), a color photo of two singers sharing a banana (1966’s Nico/Antoine), and portraits from a pair of Warhol’s famous Screen Tests (Donovan and Edie Sedgwick are the respective subjects).
