There’s your old-world Italian fare, then the heavier, cream-based Little Italy variety; now a third party has officially entered the mix. Probably due to the influx of residents with sophisticated palates and even more sophisticated wallets, the West Village has emerged as New York’s epicenter of what’s new in Italian cuisine. The new recipe collection Downtown Italian is a collaborative effort between Joe Campanale, Gabriel Thompson, and Katherine Thompson, the team behind L’Artusi, dell’anima, Anfora, and L’Apicio. Tonight they’ll share some of their creations for the tasting — possibly their ever-popular “Impromptu Tiramisu,” easy to make at home in individual portions, or a souped-up spaghetti with panko and shrimp. The trio will discuss their inspirations and mix up samples of their signature cocktails.
