The New York Road Runners Club has a terrific holiday cause — a sneaker drive for kids in the city’s underfunded schools. Their free youth running programs and events reach 150- to 200,000 kids a year, many of whom are running in old and ill-fitting sneakers. For some true holiday spirit and to benefit the drive, join in on the Reindeer Run (for kids 7 to 12) or the Jingle Bell Jog (for adults). The Reindeer Run is three-quarters of a mile, and instead of T-shirts, runners get antler headbands and jingle bells. As a longer (four-mile) race, the Jingle Bell Jog features unofficial live tracking and leaderboards. Categories include both men and women, charity spots, and a marathon qualifier. Another bonus: a pair of high-tech knee socks to go with your bells!
