Nate “Igor” Smith is what you might call an alternative photographer: The veteran Voice shooter has documented icons of alternative culture — porn stars, stand-up comics, hipsters, musicians, bartenders, chefs, and tattoo artists — for much of the past decade in New York. Tonight, he hosts a party to celebrate the launch of his latest book, Dinner With Igor. Most of the photos are shot straight-on from across the table (many at Williamsburg landmarks Kellogg’s Diner and DuMont Burger on Bedford). “I like food, everybody likes food,” says Smith, pretty plainly, when asked about setting. “With Instagram I feel you see more photos of people’s food than of them eating it.” The book includes New York chef Chris Santos and Brooklyn baker Ashley Holt, Girls stars Lena Dunham and Allison Williams, Flight of the Conchords actor Jermaine Clement, competitive eater Crazy Legs Conti, and porn star Bonnie Rotten, among them. Tonight’s party includes music by Prince Terrence and Haruka Salt, live tattooing by Chris Johnson of Venus Body Arts and Rukus of Black Square Tattoo, an open bar from 10 to 11 p.m., sponsored by Tullamore Due Whiskey, and food by Landhaus, plus free cupcakes from Next Great Baker season 3 winner Ashley Holt. It is open to everyone 21 years and older.
