Percussive dance is infectious and diverse. This edition of Stam-Pede includes Irish dance star Brian Cunningham and Atlantic Steps in An Irish House Party, combining West of Ireland steps from long ago with contemporary American styles; Christopher Caines and members of Darrah Carr Dance in his ’S an Cuan Eadrainn, based on Scots Gaelic “mouth music”; Germaine Salsberg’s Les Femmes in two different tap conversations; the six-foot-eight dance comedian Ryan Casey and his troupe in Gumshoes in Tap Shoes, a parody of noir film whose rat-tat-tat emerges from feet rather than guns; and the Bang Group’s Tap Lab, which translates scores by Steve Reich, Mozart, and Morton Feldman into enhanced visions of body music by choreographer David Parker. Don’t fear falling asleep at this bargain matinee!
