Last week, Season 5 of Downton Abbey blazed (spoiler!) back on to American television, allowing us to catch up with the Crawleys and, you know, all those people they keep in the basement. Part of a suffocating bourgeois culture or not, it’s hard to keep from getting swept up in their decadent and exceedingly British world, where one nods to the footman, dresses for dinner, and retires to the cigar room. Tonight, you can practice the elaborate etiquette yourself. At Downton Abbey: The Art of Tasting, learn about the dining customs of Edwardian England and traditional dinner entertainment while tasting a variety of bites that Mrs. Patmore would have served. Observe a garnish-making demonstration, pick up a recipe or two, try your mind at a trivia contest guessing at the function of now obsolete kitchenware, and learn why everyone got so mad at Daisy when she came up to the dining room during dinner. Don’t forget to stand up when a lady enters the room!
