Not to be outdone by Texas, Kansas City, or the Carolinas, New York has cultivated its own thriving barbecue scene, which seamlessly melds the techniques of several regions. Today, Chelsea event space The Tunnel is taken over for the sixth year by the Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ Festival, rounding up the city’s top pit masters, beer brewers, and bourbon distillers. Vendors include Daisy May’s BBQ U.S.A., whose owner won first place at a nationwide competition for his pork shoulder, and Tres Carnes, which offers barbecue-filled tacos from a chef who studied at famed Texas spot Salt Lick. This meaty celebration is divided into three segments: The first focuses on bacon, the second on ’cue, and the third on chicken and biscuits. Each session includes food, beer, and bourbon tastings, live bluegrass performances, and all manner of BBQ accoutrements for sale. Admission is limited to 1,000 guests, so snag your tickets ASAP.
