Houston, St. Louis, Kansas City — NYC belongs on this list as one of the great BBQ towns, and tonight we’re going to prove it. The Brisket King competition returns for a third year, now in a larger venue. This year takes place in the name-appropriate Kings County — Brooklyn, that is — with chefs from twenty venues. Veteran butchers like Katz’s Deli and the East Village Meat Market go head to head with young bucks like Morgan’s, Fletcher’s, and Kimchi Smoke. And since nothing goes better with BBQ than bourbon, fifteen distilleries will be on hand to loosen up the competition. Stevie Pierson, author of The Brisket Book, will join other guest judges to assign awards in the “traditional,” “non-traditional,” and “innovative” categories and, of course, the coveted title of NYC Brisket King (or queen) — Will Horowitz of Ducks Eatery is the reigning champ. Tickets include craft beer, spirits, and all the meaty goodness you can handle.
