In Jennie Livingston’s Paris Is Burning (1991), rival fashion houses gather at the grand balls in 1980s Harlem, going high heel to high heel in a decadent drag competition, vying for prizes in categories like makeup, “realness,” and of course, voguing. Tonight, celebrate the landmark film’s 25th anniversary in a different borough. BronxWorks’ sexual-health advocates and Visual AIDS artist Kia LaBeija team up to host The Bronx Is Voguing at the Bronx Museum. Revel in a screening of the movie followed by a discussion, Q&A, and voguing workshop. Wear your best and break out the glitter eyeshadow; Bronx Brewery will provide an open bar.
