Anyone wanting to live out their Girls-esque dream to party in a Brooklyn warehouse is in luck. After 24 years at the Roseland Ballroom, Rites: The Black Party is making the move to Brooklyn in an effort to offer a more “underground experience.” While the location will be different, this year’s Rites XXXVI — like past events that have drawn over 5,000 attendees — will feature “strange live acts,” DJs, and innovative staging. This year’s theme is “Mineshaft,” and all celebrators are encouraged to dress the part for this no-holds-barred celebration of drinking, dancing, and debauchery. As New York City’s largest gay dance party, Rites hopes to inspire attendees to celebrate their darkest fantasies.
