Critic Edwin Denby’s Dancers, Buildings, and People in the Streets, a 1965 collection of brilliant observations about the art form, inspired writer Claudia La Rocco, like Denby both poet and critic, to assemble a seven-week “platform” that kicks off tonight with a reading by thirteen artists close to Denby and a screening of Rudy Burckhardt’s memorial film. Platform 2015 continues with workshops, conversations, a book party on February 14, and a series of original performances, inspired by Denby’s enthusiasm for Balanchine, Cunningham, and Judson Dance Theater, pairing downtown choreographers with ballet stars; the first, featuring Will Rawls and Silas Riener making dances with Kaitlyn Gilliland and Adrian Danchig-Waring, starts February 19.
