There’s olive oil ice cream, and hibiscus donuts, so it’s really kind of baffling that cookies on the whole haven’t strayed too funky with the flavors. Mindy Segal is remedying that. While we can’t get enough of the classic chocolate chip and peanut butter varieties, now and forever, we wouldn’t turn down one of her brown-butter-and-hickory-smoked-bacon creations or crème-de-violette snickerdoodles. In Cookie Love — An Edgy New Take, Segal mixes things up, and we don’t just mean the batter. The James Beard Award–winning pastry innovator embraces the “localvore” movement to create New American fare at her Chicago dessert bar HotChocolate. But tonight she’ll bring the goods to New York for this cookbook launch, hopefully with tastings to spare.
