How do you draw a line from the underground cartooning of Aline Kominsky-Crumb to Scott McCloud’s nuanced new graphic novel, The Sculptor, to Raina Telgemeier’s touching tween memoir, Smile? Oh, and the line extends to Europe, to include the humanitarian comics of Annie Goetzinger, Ilan Manouach’s controversial remixes, and plenty more. The programmers at MoCCA Arts Festival have done it, bringing such diverse talents to the festival’s new home at Center 548 in Chelsea. Exhibitors spread over three floors; programming takes place at the nearby High Line Hotel. (The fresh air won’t kill ya.).
