In the beginning — now nearly a decade ago — the Anarchist Book Fair was just a small collection of pamphlets and self- published manifestos, laid out in Judson for the pleasure of NYU students and St. Marks stragglers. Today, as the 9th Annual Anarchist Book Fair begins, the punk-rock-but-still-kid-friendly festival has blossomed into a weekend-long program of talks, panels, films, and art exhibitions on anarchist theory and history. The dissenting fun begins tonight in Bushwick with a kickoff lecture, “To Change Everything: An Anarchist Appeal,” followed by a late-night art festival on Washington Square. The book fair itself will be open from 11 to 7 on Saturday at Judson, with an “Anarchist Film Festival” right after at Bluestockings Bookstore. Back in Bushwick on Sunday with the “Big Anarchist Brunch.”
