This Weekend’s Five Best Food and Drink Events in NYC – 5/8/2015

Celebrate your mom this weekend. We’ve rounded up five of the city’s best food and drink events to take her to this weekend.

Weekend Dumpling Feast, DumplingGo, 188 Second Avenue, Saturday, 11 a.m.

Looking for a ridiculously cheap brunch alternative? Mix and match dumplings from around the world during this four-hour fest — most dumplings are priced at $2.50 or less. A chef will talk through some of the inventive dumpling combinations.

Tea Immersion Class with Lov Organic Herbal Tea, ABC Carpet & Home, 888 Broadway, Saturday, 4 p.m.

Learn how to use tea syrup for ailments — or just go to grab a good tea sangria recipe — at this hands-on demonstration led by herbalist Blaire Edwards. The class will also cover proper brewing techniques for both hot and cold tea, and each $25 ticket includes a food-lover’s gift bag.

Nepal Earthquake Fundraiser, Niu Noodle House, 15 Greenwich Avenue, Saturday, 7 p.m.

Spend Saturday night dining for a cause. Niu Noodle House is hosting a fundraiser to support those affected by the earthquake in Nepal, with a portion of all sales going to relief efforts. In addition to dinner, a live band will play beginning at 7:30 p.m. Look, too, for a weekend happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. featuring $7 select cocktails and $2 off all draft beer, among other cheap drink specials.

Eighth Annual Crawfish Boil, The Redhead, 349 East 13th Street, Sunday, 11 a.m.

Want all the benefits of the bayou without breaking a sweat? The Redhead is hosting a Louisiana crawfish boil where $35 snags a platter including two pounds of crawfish, plus sides of andouille sausage and vegetables. Dig in to favorites like garlic bread, hush puppies, and bacon peanut brittle, too. For dessert, guests can enjoy baked alaska and ice cream pops; Abita beer on tap and special brunch cocktails are also available. The restaurant will again offer the deal on May 17 and walk-ins are welcome, though limited reservations are available in advance.

Mother’s Day Brunch, The Gorbals, 98 North 6th Street, Brooklyn, Sunday, noon

Need a last-minute gift for Mom? Pick something up at Space Ninety 8, then head upstairs for Ilan Hall’s special Mother’s Day brunch menu. For $45 per person, toast Mama with a glass of prosecco and dine on a three-course feast. The special includes choices like spring green gazpacho, smoked salmon benedict, and sticky toffee pudding.
