Loyal fans of the New York City–based Citizens Band — or even those merely intrigued by the steady acclaim the troupe has earned over the years — are advised to act quickly: Their latest act, “a meditation on social justice” entitled Political Theater, is a one-night-only affair. Where past productions have offered special appearances from the likes of Zooey Deschanel and Maggie Gyllenhaal, Political Theater‘s guest-star lineup features the comedian Lea DeLaria (Orange Is the New Black), Meredith Graves (Perfect Pussy), and Andrew Rannells (Book of Mormon, Neil Patrick Harris’s replacement in Hedwig and the Angry Inch). Conceived by Sarah Sophie Flicker, one of the Citizens Band’s core founding members, the show promises to use the group’s cabaret style to drum up political awareness ahead of an election year.
