Nineties nostalgia is nothing to shake a stick at, and we’re all for it at the 2015 4Knots Music Fesitval, clearly. We have one crazy headliner in Britpop fiends Super Furry Animals already, and now Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks are set to join them in Hudson River Park on July 11.
Most came to know and love Malkmus as the frontman of Pavement before their 1996 hiatus, but the adoration continued when he took up with the Jicks after the indie powerhouse eventually called it quits. Since then, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks have collaborated on or released a grand total of six records — the most recent being 2014’s Wig Out at Jag Bags — and toured the world, making stops at festival main stages (Coachella! Primavera! Bonnaroo!) part of their regular summer routine. Now 4Knots is going to be on that storied list, and the Voice couldn’t be more thrilled about it.
And Screaming Females? To think of how rad it’ll be to hear the merciless strains of Rose Mountain roaring out across the Hudson River is enough to make us cartwheel all the way from the financial district up to the Chelsea Piers.
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks and Screaming Females will rock alongside Super Furry Animals, Mikal Cronin, Twin Peaks, Happyness, Meabodies, and Heaters at Pier 84 in Hudson River Park on July 11. The sets will unfurl over a full day of music running from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., rain or shine, and tickets — along with some pretty sweet V.I.P. passes that get you on a boat — can be purchased here.
