On Thursday, a PETA volunteer-as-alligator lounged in front of the Hermès at 691 Madison Avenue to protest the luxury brand’s use of reptile skins.
A PETA rep tells the Voice that the stunt was organized to bring attention to an investigation by PETA at farms in Texas and Zimbabwe where crocodiles and alligators were subjected to inhumane conditions.
According to PETA, there were “appalling conditions in which animals are raised and/or killed for ‘luxury’ Birkin bags, belts, and watchbands. Alligators are packed in dank pools and crocodiles are crowded in barren concrete pits for months or even years before finally being slaughtered for their skins.”
None of that seemed to stop the passersby on Madison Avenue, though, as the video shows.
